With all the stunning destinations on the island of Ibiza to choose from, we don’t like to play favourites. However, the municipality of Sant Antoni de Portmany, located on the western side of the island has so much to recommend it, it’s hard not to.
A beautiful area of natural beauty, Sant Antoni boasts the best of Ibiza, with stunning beaches, a vibrant nightlife that includes world-famous ‘superclubs’, fascinating historical sites as well as an authentic year-round island lifestyle. The town of San Antonio Abad, the municipality’s main urban centre, is a bustling hub of activity, especially during the summer months. The municipality has much to offer its residents and visitors, below we detail some of the highlights.
Beaches One of the primary attractions of Sant Antoni de Portmany is its stunning beaches. Sant Antoni bay itself boasts five small beaches within walking distance. Or try Cala Salada and Cala Saladeta, two of the municipality’s most picturesque beaches, and for good reason. The crystal-clear waters and pristine sands make for a picturesque spot to spend a day in the sun. The beaches are also relatively quiet and tranquil, making them perfect for those who prefer a peaceful day at the beach, although of course, like all popular tourist destinations, they get livelier during the summer months.
Nightlife Sant Antoni de Portmany is also famous for its lively nightlife. The town is home to some of the best clubs and bars in Ibiza, making it a popular destination for partygoers from all over the world. The West End area of San Antonio is particularly bustling, with numerous bars and clubs lining the streets. Whether you’re looking for a wild night out or a more relaxed evening with friends, there is something for everyone here.
Historical Sites The municipality is home to several historical sites that offer a glimpse into Ibiza’s rich history. One of the most notable is the Sant Antoni de Portmany Church, which dates back to the 14th century. The church is a beautiful example of Gothic architecture, built to defend the time from pirate invaders, or visit the nearby Coves Blanques lighthouse which dates from the late C19th but has now been turned into an exhibition hall.
Another site of historical interest can be found in the Ses Fontanelles cave, with wall paintings dating back to the Punic period. Not only are there fascinating drawings to discover, but it’s also a picturesque spot with wonderful views over the Cala Salada and San Antonio. In fact, there is much of cultural and historic interest in this region for those who prefer perusing ruins to parties, or even a combination of both!
Outdoor Activities Sant Antoni de Portmany is also a great destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The municipality boasts numerous hiking and cycling trails that allow visitors to explore the stunning natural scenery of the island. Kayaking and paddleboarding are also popular activities and enable you to escape some of the busier beaches during the summer, paddling to the secluded bays and coves that can be found throughout the municipality.
Real Estate in Sant Antoni de Portmany The real estate market in Sant Antoni de Portmany offers a wide range of properties. There are fewer gated urbanisations here than may be found in other parts of the island, however, there are still a great variety of properties to suit most tastes and budgets.
